Time Out Workshop Draws Geriatric Professionals from throughout Tennessee
The amphitheater at One Century Place Conference Center (formerly Willis Conference Center) in Nashville was filled to capacity on November 10, 2011 as more than 200 professionals who serve the elderly and disabled gathered for the Time Out Workshop, a professional education program sponsored by Elder Law Practice of Timothy L. Takacs.
Now in its twelfth year, the popular program drew social workers, case managers, nurses, discharge planners, nursing home administrators and other geriatric care professionals from throughout Tennessee. In addition to enjoying breakfast, lunch and networking opportunities, participants earned continuing education hours for attending. The workshop offered a variety of topics, including elder investment fraud and financial exploitation, Social Security benefits, ethical and legal considerations for clients with diminishing capacity, and finding meaning and joy in the midst of life’s challenges.
Organizer Bonnie Woodard said that the workshop has become so popular that it sold out a month in advance. “We transitioned to an online registration process this year and seats went really fast,” said Woodard, who also serves as the Medicare Specialist at Elder Law Practice of Timothy L. Takacs. “There’s always a waiting list for this event because it gives professionals a rare opportunity to take time out to recharge and enjoy a day of quality education with peers.”
Elder Law Practice of Timothy L. Takacs has sponsored nineteen editions of the Time Out Workshop in the last twelve years. The program was offered twice a year until 2009 when the Time Out Workshop became an annual event. Today it is one of the most eagerly-anticipated events on the professional education calendar each fall.
This year’s conference featured vendor exhibits from 18 sponsoring organizations including Alive Hospice, AseraCare Hospice, At Home Services, Avalon Hospice, Caring Senior Service, Inc., Caris Healthcare, Creekside at Three Rivers Assisted Living, Elmcroft of Hendersonville, Home Helpers of Brentwood, Home Instead Senior Care, Intrepid USA Healthcare Services, Life-Links Geriatric Care Management, McKendree Village, NHC HomeCare, Philips Lifeline of Middle Tennessee, Rutland Place Senior Community, Senior Helpers and WholeCare Connections, Inc.
