The Tennessee Pooled Trust is Tennessee's first "pooled trust," established in 2000 under federal law by Tim Takacs, Certified Elder Law Attorney, for families who want to set aside funds for the benefit of their disabled family members without risking loss of such government benefits as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid. The Tennessee Pooled Trust is also used to protect inheritances and personal injury settlements.
In order to better serve its beneficiaries, administration of The Tennessee Pooled Trust was transferred by the original trustee, Vista Points, to The Center for Special Needs Trust Administration, Inc., a non-profit corporation, that also administers The Florida Pooled Trust and The Pooled Trust of Minnesota. The Center for Special Needs Trust Administration is the Trustee of The Tennessee Pooled Trust.
Unlike trusts administered by banks or for-profit trust companies, The Tennessee Pooled Trust accepts comparatively modest amounts of money. Parents of adult disabled children and personal injury lawyers who are seeking to preserve settlements for their disabled clients are assured of trust management by caring professionals who understand a beneficiary's special needs and know the law applicable to government benefits.
