Educate, Inspire, Bond: Our Time Out Workshop Celebrates 25 Years!

Updated: Jul 26, 2024

Our Time Out Workshop is one of Tennessee’s most popular continuing education events.

This year was the 25th year our firm has hosted this conference for social workers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals. Hundreds of people attended the sell-out event, where speakers examined issues relevant to our audience. Not only did attendees receive the opportunity for professional growth, but they also got to reunite with friends from the industry.

One attendee commented that it was like “old homecoming week.” Fun door prizes and the

presentation of the Caregiver Award were also part of the day.

“At our core, the team at Johnson McGinnis Elder Care Law & Estate Planning are educators. You can see that in the monthly learning cafes that we offer to clients, the monthly webinars that we offer to professionals, and the countless number of community presentations that we do free of charge. The Time Out Workshop is our hallmark event,” said Barbara McGinnis, Attorney and Partner at Johnson McGinnis.

Attendees commented: “This is always a great investment in my learning.” “What a great conference!” and “It is wonderful to spend time with my colleagues and talk about our shared experiences.”

Topics covered at the event included: “Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Elder Law,” “Aging Well in Tennessee: Key Challenges & Opportunities,” and “Depression, Delirium, and Dementia.”

This year’s Caregiver Award recipient is Jennifer Reynolds, a nurse at Vitality Living in Hendersonville. Nominations are submitted by the community at large, and the recipient is chosen by a committee of Johnson McGinnis employees. She received a plaque and a $250 gift card.

When asked: How has this caregiver made a positive influence in the lives of others? Here is the answer that won her the award: “Jennifer is a competent, caring nurse with common sense. She is calm, approachable, kind, and genuine. She talks to the residents like the human beings they are and not just a job to get done. These are rare skills. The personal connection is what makes her extra special. She was a life raft to me during my care journey.”

As the Time Out Workshop marks its 25th anniversary, it continues to be a beacon of inspiration, education, and respite for social workers and healthcare professionals dedicated to serving the elderly and people with disabilities. This milestone celebration underscores the workshop's enduring impact and the strong bonds formed among its participants. Here's to another quarter-century of fostering camaraderie, providing essential support, and empowering those who care for our most vulnerable populations. They are truly today’s heroes.
